2014 COLOUR FORECAST
Informed by the latest trends in design, fashion and technology, this year’s Plascon Colour Forecast – Colour Nation – reveals four key colour themes to keep an eye out for in 2014.
“Our theme for this year reflects the way that colour both unifies and differentiates us.” – Plascon Forecast 2014
Celebrating the unique aesthetics of design darlings South Africa and Brazil, Plascon’s Urban Tribe palette is cutting edge, yet rooted in tradition. An array of folk-inspired brights is balanced by gold and black, resulting in an energetic, grounded collection of hues.
THE INSPIRATION: Geometrics, vivid brights, high-contrast combinations, African and South American style, retro-modern design, and the balance between raw and refined.
“As the world becomes more connected, national identity is not about blending in but standing out.” – Plascon Forecast 2014
Paying homage to the grounding effect nature has in our increasingly urbanised world, Plascon’s Second Nature palette reimagines the colours found in our environment. At the core of the collection is a mixture of greens, brights and neutrals that contrast with vivid blues and bright yellow.
THE INSPIRATION: Jungle and acid-green tones, tropical-inspired motifs and textures, urban patterns, eclectic combinations and city gardens.
“Our second nature theme is inspired by the intersection of the human and natural worlds – a city garden for urban dwellers.” – Plascon Colour Forecast 2014
Plascon’s Calm Contrast palette gives a new, sophisticated edge to traditionally feminine, calming colours. This versatile assembly of hues balances chalky pastels with strong neutrals, and accents them with a darkly dramatic blue-black and warm copper.
THE INSPIRATION: Contemporary romanticism, textures and layers, faceted geometry, modern meets classic, subtle contrasts and natural finishes.
“Long-standing distinctions between masculine and feminine are no longer so clear, especially with colour.” – Plascon Colour Forecast 2014
Our enduring fascination with the night sky has been rekindled thanks to Southern Africa’s proposed SKA telescope and the Curiosity Rover landing on Mars. Plascon’s Inner Space palette celebrates the mysteries of the cosmos with a collection of neutrals and blues that are both timeless and universal.
THE INSPIRATION: Timeless naturals, space exploration and stargazing, lunar textures, metallic finishes, tonal combinations and deep and moody colour.
“The calm and timeless colours and textures of space have infiltrated global design.” – Plascon Colour Forecast 2014
